Harry Styles’ new track “Aperture” has been long awaited. After several years of absence from the music scene, fans were wondering when Styles would rejoin. “Aperture” marks the end of Styles’ break while also signaling the beginning of a new creative chapter. Different from his last album, “Harry’s House,” “Aperture” includes a more disco-like sound with pulsing synths and a steady beat, creating a disorienting fever dream-like ambiance. This track also sets the stage for Styles’ new album release this March, promising a broader exploration of the disco genre with his next release. 

After the first few lines, it becomes obvious that the song is about a relationship. Styles urges the love interest to broaden her perspective, singing “Aperture lets the light in.” However, Styles also mentions how the commitment necessary for a healthy relationship is not one sided. He notes that, even though the relationship is new and unsteady, he shouldn’t “stray from it.” Styles’ persistence in the relationship reveals his intentions; he doesn’t want another fleeting romance — he desires something genuine, special and lasting. 

We see this foment in the end of the song when he confesses “I want to know what safe is,” exposing his desire for stability. Through the upbeat rhythm and the authenticity of his lyrics, it becomes clear that Styles is stepping into a new phase of his life, one in which he hopes to truly embrace and admire all that the world has to offer, regardless of how hard he has to fight for it.
