This fall, Summit was the state’s only 5A school to advance every team past the first round of playoffs and bring home a state trophy. Each team also either placed second in the district, or walked away with an IMC title. With that being said, here is the 2025 fall sports recap:
Girls Cross Country:
Throughout the season, the Summit Girls Cross Country Team saw an upward trend. Their energy carried through the district race where they scored their first five runners in the top ten, earning them yet another IMC title. The entire season, however, felt like a build up to the state meet.
The team emerged from the state meet back on top, taking home the Oregon 5A State Title for the 16th time in 17 years.
“The [team’s] commitment shown was phenomenal and only improved over the course of the season,” said Skye Knox, a captain and senior on the team.
The team also competed at Nike Cross Regionals in Spokane, Washington where they placed sixth and beat all other Oregon teams, regardless of classification.
Boys Cross Country:
The Summit Boys Cross Country Team showed more commitment than ever this season, ending in a close second place finish at the Oregon 5A State Meet.
“Our season went really well, full of highs and lows which tells us that the program is competing well but there’s still room for our team to improve,” said senior Cooper Bollom, a captain on the team.
Gearing up to this race, the boys team had a remarkably strong season, winning two invitationals and the IMC district meet.
“The highlight of the year was our last race [at Nike Cross Regionals] in Spokane,” said Bollom. “The boys team finished 5th, which was the best team finish at regionals since 2017 when the team qualified for nationals.”
Girls Volleyball:
With many players graduating last year and a new coach, the girls volleyball team had the opportunity for a new team culture.
“I think in the beginning of the year, expectations were really low for our team,” said Cecilia Dean, a senior on the team. “We put in a lot of work throughout the season, and then grew as a team.”
In late September, Summit beat Bend High, who later finished second in the state tournament. For many players on the Summit team, this the win was a season highlight. At the IMC tournament, the team was league co-champion. The team also made it to the state tournament this season where they placed fourth.
Football:
For the first time in school history, Summit Football had an undefeated regular season and a 12-1 record. After finishing in the quarterfinals last year, the city and IMC champs entered into the championship game.
“Ultimately it was really disappointing, because we were really hoping to win state, and we all really believed that we could have won,” said Bennett Butler, a senior on the team.
The team fought hard but in the end they lost to Silverton, resulting in a second place finish.
“We progressed the most in our bond together as a team,” said Butler. “Everyone got a lot closer…more friends and like family with each other.”
Girls Water Polo:
As this year’s league and state champions, the girls water polo team has had quite the season. In the state championship match, the girls dominated, crushing Hillsboro 13-2, cementing their place on top. Their 2025 state title is the first state championship that the team has brought home in ten years.
“I think we had really good team chemistry when we played, which we’ve never really had before,” said Kaia Chopra, a senior and captain on the team.
This year, the Summit girls also beat Hood River, a team that they lost to for years leading them to an undefeated season in 5A and an overall season record of 16-5.
Boys Water Polo:
The Summit Boys Water Polo team is your back-to-back state champion. This fall, the team was undefeated in 5A and finished with an overall season record of 22-7.
“I think that we matured a lot over the season and just kind of grew in confidence instead of cockiness,” said Joel Hoffman, a senior on the team. “We knew that we were good, and kind of acted upon that without getting in our heads.”
In addition to their success in 5A, the team also competed at the Monterey Toreadors Boys’ Water Polo Tournament in California where they won all their games.
Girls Rugby:
The girls rugby team is still relatively new at Summit, this year marking their fourth season, but this has not affected the team’s accomplishments. After an undefeated season, the team won their second consecutive 7s state championship.
“We’d all worked really hard and put a lot of effort into winning, or wanting to win at least,” said Tessa Hoffman, a junior on the team. “[It] was really fulfilling when we were able to win as a team.”
A testament to their success, Summit’s girls rugby team has grown fast.
“We had a lot more girls this year so we ended up having two different teams,” said Hoffman. “Over the course of the year, both teams got better and better.”
Girls Soccer:
Starting the season with their annual coast trip, a highlight for many of the athletes, Summit’s girls soccer team built a community and set their goals.
“Our team was really close this year… and we met a lot of our goals,” said Holly Beltramini, a senior on the team.
The team finished second in IMC and made it to the state semifinals, finishing in fourth place at state.
“Our energy at the end was really good and we were all encouraging each other,” said Beltramini.
Overall, the team scored 63 goals throughout the season and only allowed nine.
Boys Soccer:
After an undefeated league tournament during which no opposing team was able to score against them, the boys soccer team is your IMC champion.
Despite having a younger team this season, the team made it to the semifinal match.
“Over the season we were playing more united and we played better and better with every game that came our way,” said Evan Kapsa, a senior and captain on the team.
In many games that were projected to be close, the Storm prevailed. In the Summit vs. Redmond game, which was predicted to be the closest league game of the season, Summit beat Redmond 7-0.
