Summit’s Skyliner Jazz Choir is performing Valogram songs on Friday, Feb. 13 to celebrate Valentine’s Day. The melodies, which will be delivered during the class period of the sender’s choosings, will come with a rose, candy and a custom message from the sender. The set list for this year’s Valograms contain Valentine’s classics such as, “Can’t Help Falling in Love” by Elvis Presley and “Be My Baby” by The Ronettes.
For the Skylier Jazz Choir, Valograms are more than a fun surprise for a friend or teacher: They allow the choir to simultaneously showcase their work and fund their program. With the Skyliner Jazz class disbanded this year, practice for this tradition occurred during lunch, shortening the choir’s rehearsal time. Therefore, this Valentine’s Day is a great time to appreciate the Skylier Jazz Choir’s commitment to bringing music and art to the Summit community.
“The performing arts could always have more opportunities to showcase their hard work and talent within the school community so Valograms are a way to showcase that talent specifically from the choir and help raise money for our program,” said Summit junior and jazz choir member Halle Dao.
To have the choir perform one of these tunes, head to the choir stand in the Commons before school or stop by during lunch to purchase a Valogram for $10. If you don’t have enough time to buy a Valogram in person, you can also purchase one linked here. And if a Valogram is delivered to a class you are in, don’t forget to give the Skyliner Jazz Choir a round of applause!
