On Nov. 19, Summit hosted their first Red Cross Blood Drive of the school year. In the past, Summit’s blood drives have had poor performance. Typically, Summit students don’t show much participation in the blood donations, but this time, over roughly 40 people showed up, surpassing the organizers’ goal by 10 people.
So what does donating blood do?
Summit senior Francis Vowels, one of the main blood drive organizers, said “Donating blood has such a big impact. Blood isn’t something that can be manufactured.”
She explained that if someone experiences a traumatic injury, blood can be a lifesaving measure. Time cannot be wasted when someone is losing too much blood.
Vowels is proud of Summit’s turnout for the first blood drive of the school year, and she hopes that the next blood drive will have a turnout that surpasses an even bigger goal. It’s important for students to understand that their simple donations can save lives. So if you can, donate blood and save a life.
