Taylor Swift Has Done it Again

On October 21, 2022, Taylor Swift released her highly anticipated tenth studio album Midnights, which would go on to experience the biggest first week of any album this year. On the day of its release, it broke Spotify records for the most streamed album in a single day. Swift described Midnights as “a journey through terrors and sweet dreams,” and critics have since commended the album for its authenticity.

Coming after Folklore and Evermore, two quarantine-era albums where Swift explores a more storytelling angle, many fans find Midnights’ genuinity refreshing. The thirteen track album delves into Swift’s deepest insecurities and worst fears. The most popular song off of Midnights, Anti-hero, discusses Swift’s anxiety and self-doubt using phrases like “I’m the problem, it’s me,” to communicate her perspective of her life as the “anti-hero.” The feelings that Swift discusses in this song easily connect to listeners’ own lives, and this theme of relatability throughout her newest album is one of the things fans love most.
