Lizzy McAlpine: When the World Stopped Moving

Lizzy McAlpine: When the World Stopped Moving

Ella Messih, Former Staff Writer

Lizzy Mcalpine, an up and coming indie/alternative artist, blows every other singer songwriter out of the water with her second album, capturing the raw emotions of loss, heartbreak and indescribable feelings that can’t be communicated through conversation. McAlpine is a 21-year- old girl from Philadelphia. She spent her recent years studying at the Berklee College of Music but then proceeded to drop out after her new-found fame and success after the release of her first album, “Give Me a Minute.” Mcalpine’s latest release “When the World Stopped Moving” has brought her fans to a new level of connection with McAlpine. Each song has a unique approach on the rapidly changing and wildy confusing feelings and emotions with love and loss. Such as, ‘What Are We…?’ And’ Let Light Be Light.” With calming and soulful melodies filled with nostalgia like In What World, makes listeners feel wrapped up in blankets on a cold winter evening. Her raw, vulnerable lyrics are rare in a world filled with basic artists and shallow lyrics. For a taste of one of the most fragile songs on the album, look no further than “Angelina.” Mcalpine took a brave approach on “Angelina” and wrote the song from a male’s perspective. The track captures the abstract feelings from a man when the person they feel the most attached to never stays in the picture for very long. Mostly, “Angelina” is about an inconsistent relationship causing one to lose oneself in the process—all while trying to pursue another. With Mcalpine’s powerful statements of loss and messages of grief, she draws more and more fans daily.
