Hozier has had rapid growth in the style of his music since we first heard the echo of “Take Me to Church.” While the original slowed-tempo song about the church is still known to the heart these days, Hozier has expanded to releasing multiple new EPs in the past year. His newest EP, “Unaired,” includes only three new songs, but the one that stands out is “Nobody’s Soldier.”
Unlike the other two songs included in the EP “July” and “That you are,” “Nobody’s Soldier” has a quick, lively tempo and a very hard-rock aura. The song takes on a more assertive, confident, self-assured perspective. The song, which was released this August, gives us a perspective of a man who’s done having others decide his decisions or faith. Even the title lets us know he’s not going to be a Soldier, or take any orders. The song’s dynamics are beautiful. Like most of his songs, he starts with a quiet falsetto range, and by the pre-chorus is already belting with an astonishing and soulful volume.
Hoziers future to listeners may be TBD because of the wide variety of songs throughout his recent EPs and newer albums, but fans hope for more songs under the hard- rock genre. But no matter what his music career looks like, we know it will be an adventure.
