Summit High School is hosting an informal homecoming in the Commons on Sep. 29. District admin have requested that all Bend-La Pine Schools host an informal homecoming due to the cost associated with pre-dance dinners, dresses and tickets, despite the resources to combat these costs such as Cinderella’s closet and FAN advocates.
Summit student council President Max Himstreet is optimistic about the prospect of this new style of homecoming.
“While everyone wishes we could do a formal homecoming, we are making the most with what we can do right now,” said Himstreet. Students will dress in America/USA out for the game and “dance.”
Summit High School students are hopeful. Some traditions will still live on even in the new approach to homecoming. On the day of the “dance,” the teacher-nominated homecoming court was announced. Summit freshman Cambria Ruiz is excited about the dance.
“I really enjoy school dances… I want to dress up but the[America Out ] theme is sick,” said Ruiz. The school campus will be filled with food trucks and games- notably a mechanical bull to kick off the 2023 football season.
