Entering the 2023-2024 school year, senior Max Himstreet is taking on the intense role of Summit High School’s student body president. Himstreet has played an important role in the start of this school year, and will continue to as the year goes on. To get a fuller picture of our new president, it’s essential to get to know his life outside of school as well.
Himstreet first joined student council during his junior year, but it didn’t take him long for him to decide he wanted to jump the gun and run for president. As he spent more time helping throughout the school, he realized how many amazing opportunities the student council actually has. Himstreet’s drive and passion pushed him to lead the school and help put on more dances, events and fundraisers, and make them better than they were last year.
Himstreet is working to make this year the best possible while still upholding his duties as president. “I am hoping to be a professional and upstanding president, while also hoping not to get canceled on Twitter in the process,” Himstreet said.
Various different qualities can make a good student body president, but for Himstreet it’s more than just his goals and preparation. Himstreet claims he has great intrinsic motivation and cares less about rewards and feedback, making him fit for the role of president.
As leader of the student council, Jake Oelrich had gotten to know Himstreet throughout his junior year, and only had good things to say. Claiming Himstreet has a great work ethic, Oelrich can’t help but say that he is making a great student body president.
“[Himstreet] is in every AP class and the kid grinds so hard,” Oelrich said. “He’s an athlete, he’s a scholar, he’s now our president, and he is definitely one of the hardest workers I know.”
Outside of his duties in student council, Himstreet adores baking, particularly when it comes to cakes and cookies. The creativity aspect of baking and being able to do things however he wants is what Himstreet loves the most. He is also an avid tennis player and is part of the varsity tennis team at Summit.
“I love the team aspect of it, being on a team, competing as a team, traveling with a team, meeting new people and getting super close with all of them,” Himstreet said.
After taking the reins as student body president of Summit High School and graduating with an honors diploma, Himstreet is hoping to study computer science and make his way to becoming a software engineer.
