Summit’s home field on Oct. 17 was full of spectators with big coats and blankets, but the Boys Varsity Soccer team was still out there in jerseys crushing it. The game was played with temperatures in the low 50s but Summit still won with a seamless 7–0, making their Intermountain Conference record 8–0 and their OSAA rank No. 1. Summit has been playing excellently, and their ranking reflects it.
Sophomore Jacob Jenkins plays goalie for the team and was on the field the entire game. Jenkins said, “the goal we had from the beginning of the season and will have for the rest will be to win the state championship,” and with their season’s performance, this is definitely within reach.
Summit had a rare few close calls this game, but Jenkins and Summit’s defense were able to stop Crook County’s attempts. The first three goals were scored by sophomore Will Newton. Newton, who plays striker, was truly cruising through the Crook County defense in this game. The rest of the goals were scored by seniors Jude Jarrett, Branson Kelly, Evan Kapsa and Landen Barlow.
Summit’s next game was against Caldera on Oct. 21 and Summit finished with a score of 3–0. The teams next game will be versus Bend High on Summit’s home field at 6 p.m. on Oct. 24.
