Around ten years ago, the Summit Library started a six word summer memoir contest, and it remains very popular to this day with over 70 applicants, including students and faculty. The contest asks students and teachers alike to write a six word memoir which encapsulates their summer, and this Friday, three students and three teachers will be announced as the 2025 winners.
To decide the student winners, teachers will be voting on their favorite memoirs, and the top three with the most votes will have notes sent to their class to inform them of their victory. Recipients will have the opportunity to claim their prizes in the library via a colored prize wheel with corresponding prize buckets filled with ridiculous and fun items such as bacon air fresheners, gag gifts and more. Winners will also be announced in the Summit announcements email and social media.
However, the contest matters to the whole community, not just the lucky three who win. The summer memoir contest is a way to involve the Summit community in the library and school spirit.
“It’s a super easy and fun way to get back into the school,” said Catherine Blue, Summit’s library media tech.
If you have entered into the contest and are desperately awaiting the results make sure to be in class on Friday, Oct. 3.
