On May 27, Summit students cast their votes for next year’s Student Council, electing Gemma Moussa as president. The girl may be small, but she has big plans.
“[I will] create a lot of events that appeal to a wide variety of students, showcase all extracurriculars and academics and create an inclusive environment,” said Moussa. She wears many hats at Summit, from taking AP classes to leading the student section at games as a cheerleader, and now heading up Student Council, or StuCo.
“It’s really important to me that every student feels welcome at Summit and I am willing to put in the time and effort to make that happen,” Moussa explained.
Moussa isn’t the only one taking on leadership. Moussa’s Vice President is Cooper Alkire, who, like Moussa, has been on StuCo since freshman year and is stepping up to lead.
Additionally, this year will bring a new development to StuCo, with more focused roles. In addition to the standard president, vice president, spirit commissioners and class representatives, there are directors of many of StuCo’s key responsibilities. These include communications, assemblies, arts and athletics, dances and community engagement, with either a person or duo overseeing each responsibility.
Moussa aims “to maximize the potential of each member on StuCo so that everyone is contributing to our school through their assigned role. The committees are designed to account for the many different aspects of student council so that we can do the best for our school.”
With new leadership and organization, Summit’s StuCo is ready to bring the coming year to the next level. Students should keep an eye out for events, community involvement, and renewed energy.
