Summit’s renowned theater program will perform their opening night of “Shakespeare in Love” April 24 at 7 p.m. on Summit’s Elizabethan stage. Unlike their previous Shakespeare performances, this play will be performed in the school’s auditorium. In order to prepare, the cast, crew and parents have been working tirelessly to design sets and craft costumes for weeks. With most of the cast rehearsing every day of the week, the show is a collective effort and sees dedicated hard work from most everyone involved.
The play is based on the screenplay by Marc Norman and Tom Stoppard and adapted for the stage by Lee Hall. The story follows young Will Shakespeare, who will be played by Justin Richards, as he pursues his dreams of becoming a writer. While he struggles with writer’s block and the pressures of putting on his own play, he is met with another challenge: the brilliant Viola, played by Scarlett Livingston. Viola soon becomes Will’s muse, and the two embark on a love affair tangled with a passion for art.
The show will run from April 24 to 27. You can find tickets through the theatre program’s Instagram or click on this link to buy your tickets for “Shakespeare in Love.”
