Old Boy Vintage will be reopening on Jan. 24 with a new name and purpose. 1st Street Thrift Store, located at 1470 NE 1st street, will be a thrifting-specific venue. In addition, the founder of the organization is opening a second location, at 124 NW Greenwood Avenue. This is where Old Boy Vintage will be housing antique, hand-picked items.
Old Boy Vintage has been a local favorite for vintage finds for over two years. As they’re undergoing serious development with the remodeling of their former establishment, a more prominent location in downtown Bend will be opening, though the exact date has yet to be announced. This new location will be known as Old Boy Vintage, while the traditional spot will now be 1st Street Thrift Store. The expansion promises to maintain the store’s status as a cornerstone of thrifting and embrace its commitment to offer historical, one-of-a-kind pieces at the new location.
“It’s cool to see Old Boy grow,” said Alexis Cathcart, a sophomore at Summit. “I went a few times back when nobody knew about it and it’s changed a lot. It’s really popular now.”
Thrifting and buying vintage clothing are often confused, but they have distinct differences. Thrifting involves shopping at secondhand stores, where you can find a wide range of items, including modern and older pieces, typically at discounted prices. Events like 1st Street Thrift Store’s famous $10 sale emphasize the hunt and searching for unique, affordable items. On the other hand, buying vintage clothing means seeking out items from a particular era. These specific items are often curated by specialty shops like Old Boy Vintage where each article is chosen with care.
With both locations now serving different purposes, Old Boy Vintage is sure to become a must-visit destination for thrifting enthusiasts and throw-back fashion lovers alike.
