Hozier’s music style has rapidly grown since we first heard the echo of “Take Me to Church.” While the original slow-tempo song is still known to the heart these days, Hozier has expanded his range by releasing multiple new EPs in the past year. His newest EP “Unaired,” which was released in August includes three new songs, and the first one “Nobody’s Soldier” especially stands out.
Unlike the other two songs included in the EP, “July” and “That You Are,” “Nobody’s Soldier” has a quick, lively tempo and a very hard-rock aura. The song takes on a more assertive, confident, self-assured perspective. “Nobody’s Soldier” provides a perspective of a man who’s done having others decide his faith. Even the title lets listeners know he’s not going to be a soldier or take any orders. Like most of his songs, he starts with a quiet falsetto range, and by the pre-chorus is already belting with an astonishing and soulful volume.
Hozier’s future music may be unpredictable because of the wide variety of songs in his recent EPs and newer albums, but fans hope for more songs under the hard-rock genre. But no matter what his music career looks like, it will be an adventure.
