Under the Friday night lights on November 10, Summit varsity football team beat Lebanon in the 5A state quarterfinals. While the raging student section was decked out in their best pajamas, Summit senior Jimmy Hughes was leading Summit to a 35 point, with a final score of 49-14. In the second quarter, Hughes made a 29-yard touchdown pass to senior receiver Mac Bledsoe.
Hughes wasn’t alone in this great game, as senior running back Sam Stephens continued to break away from his recently broken rushing yards record. Finishing this game with 13 carries for 71 rushing yards.
Summit is still on the quest for a repeat state title, with semifinals up next. They will play Wilsonville this Friday. A team they lost to 20-35 earlier in the season. If they pull out a win, they will play Mountain View or Silverton the following weekend. Summit seeks redemption for their October 20 loss to Mountain View.
Results are up in the air, but we can hope for the best. The team has been improving every week and has a chance to compete.
