Tol’s Take on Summer Trends

Five fashion statements to improve your style over the break

Silver and gold has been a debate over the past couple of years, but this summer, gold wins. Gold jewelry is eye-catching and goes perfectly with warm skin tones. The chunky gold necklaces, bracelets, earrings and rings are taking over. Many influencers including Gigi and Bella Hadid are wearing chunky gold jewelry. These influencers and many more are making gold jewelry a necessity to their everyday outfits. Junior Mallory Rosen wears gold jewelry everyday.

“Jewelry is just another outlet to express yourself. I think it should be valued and specific to the person. I like the range of detail in jewelry and how it holds lots of meaning,” said Rosen.

Yes, gold chunky jewelry is becoming more popular, but small dainty jewelry also has a place. Everyone should wear jewelry no matter your identity because it is the new way to show your personality.

Jorts have taken over the fashion industry and are only going to become more popular throughout the summer. Short shorts are officially out. Junior Ruby Jameson had some strong opinions when it came to jorts.

“I think it doesn’t compliment people who are short, but if you’re tall i think you can pull them off,” said Jameson. Jameson thinks there is a limit on how long a pair of shorts can be. “Touching the knee or past the knee I think is too long,” she said.

Jorts are flattering on some people and not so much on others but they’re very cute when worn and styled in the right way.

Accessorizing is what makes or breaks outfits. People are now starting to even accessorize more, even their mouths. Tooth gems are a temporary accessory that teenage girls are starting to want. Malia Lockrum, a senior at Summit, has already hopped on the trend.

“I was in Brooklyn, New York with my mom and best friend and we came across this super cute underground pop up that did tooth gems. I knew right away that I wanted one and so I let one of the workers choose a placement and ended up leaving with 2 small diamonds on my teeth! I think they’re so fun and add spice to your everyday appearance,” said Lockrum.

This painless process leads to a very easy experience. The gem is glued with a dental composite glue and then the bonding procedure is similar to bonding an orthodontic bracket. This process leaves the tooth intact and allows an easy removal.

Bikinis are an everyday outfit in the summer. Girls want to feel confident, supported, and comfortable in their bikinis when out in public. When going out to the river or laying by the pool, teenage girls will be wearing tiny yet elegant strappy bikinis.

Junior Peyton Green loves to be in the water, surf and tan. She spends a lot of time in the sun, and has lots of bikinis for all different activities.

“Personally I don’t like strappy bikinis as much because it gives you weird tan lines, but they are super flattering on most people,” said Green.

Strappy bikinis are all over popular bikini websites. They have not only taken over the internet but have taken over River Bend Park.

Sambas are a new trend that have taken over the halls here at Summit. Sambas were created in 1949, then became popular again in the 90’s, and are back again. Not only are teenagers wearing this shoe daily, but so are teachers and parents.

Ella Taft, a senior at Summit, rocks the Adidas Sambas often. She has styled them like other influencers, with skirts, shorts or even jeans.

“I have seen them all over social media and other platforms, and they look really good with influencer outfits. I got them because I like how they go with everything,” said Taft.

Sambas will be everywhere this summer because of their blend of comfort and fashion.
