The Return of Spring Skiing
Skyliner lift to close for upgrades starting May 1
As bluebird skies and warmer temperatures rapidly approach Mt. Bachelor, the long-standing chairlift Skyliner Express will close on May 1st, earlier than the rest of the mountain. The resort is using this closure to tear down the existing lift in preparation for upcoming upgrades.
Skyliner Express was disoperational for the majority of last ski season, when a crucial part to the lift was broken. When it became apparent in January of 2022 that the chairlift would need to be fully replaced, Mt. Bachelor opted to upgrade the lift entirely. Instead of sharing a chair with three buddies, skiers and snowboarders will now find themselves on a 6-person chairlift starting for the 2023-24 season.
While these upgrades are being framed as an investment in the future enhancement of the mountain, the lack of terrain will put a damper on the remainder of this year’s ski season for many riders. Mt. Bachelor typically flaunts a massive 4,323 acres of terrain, but these closures will reduce the resort’s size to a fraction of that, at 1500 acres.
