Will You Be My Galentine?

Girls around the world come together for one special night

Galentines… What is it? Where is it? When is it?

Amy Poehler, an American comedian, actress, writer, producer and director created a day through her “Parks and Recreation” character Leslie Knope for single ladies around the world, only for it to make a huge comeback in 2023 after losing its popularity. This year “Galentine’s Day”—aka Feb. 13—spread across social media and became a must in almost every girl friend group.

TikTok “for you” pages bring in the best flirty friendly ideas to grab everyone’s attention. In the videos heart shaped balloons fill the room, while filming past the layout of chocolate covered food and pink drinks. A girl’s guilty pleasure.

“A few of my girl friends got together and planned a night for galentine’s day. We each brought a few ingredients to make sushi and eat dessert,” said Summit junior Arden Conde.

Instagram and TikTok overflowed with millions of girls sharing videos about their new plans for a night of fun to celebrate friendship instead of their partner… if they have one. The holiday is all about admiring the ones who have your back forever, especially when your date doesn’t.

“I’m super grateful to have friends to spend time with, making the most of every holiday even if it’s just for fun” Conde said.

G-day is for everyone out there looking for a good time filled with festive drinks, food, matching outfits and rom com movies to cry to.

“Me and my group got together and made brownies and watched movies,” said Ella Kissell, a sophomore at Summit High school.

After seeing a lot of inspiration from other girls on social media, she loved the idea.

Spirits are high now that there is a way to celebrate a holiday you might have been alone for. Run, don’t walk to your own night of friendship and fun for next year.
