Winter Came Early
Winter came early for the Summit community as the first snowfall of the school year hit Bend on Nov. 1. At around 3 am it started snowing in town and continued throughout the morning, and continued on and off for the next several days. Some degree of melting and rain, as well as re-freezing, creates a potential hazard on the road, especially in the mornings when ice will be most likely.
Bend typically gets less than 12 inches of precipitation per year, but being just a short drive from Mount Bachelor, winter sport enthusiasts can get their fix of winter weather. As of Nov. 1 at noon, Mount Bachelor is expected to take on 8-12 inches of snow through 8 pm Wednesday, creating good prospects for the season which begins on November 25.
